Älgspårprov (Elk tacking examination): Barlestone Yarle av Naraena

The location this time was Främmestad, near Nossebro, and the judge Christer Gustafsson. The elks in this area appeared to be very thin on the ground, or 'took to the hills' upon hearing our arrival fearing the presence of guns perhaps, as the hunting season had not quite ended at this time. Today it was Blue's turn to take the examination and he failed to gain a pass. The judge was very pleased with his working speed but he did not shine in his tracking abilities on this day. However, I learned more about working with my dogs which was extremely helpful and Blue appeared to make a new friend as he curled up against the judge whilst we had the obligatory break in the middle of the exam. It was suggested that I give Blue some more training and take the exam again at the next opportunity, which will be in the Autumn. I was glad of the experience and very proud of my Blue.

Älgspårprov (Elk tacking examination): Elsa av Naraena & Naraena Kristina

The location was Halleberg (a mountain plateau near Vännesborg) under Judge Evert Jenhall. First to take the examination was Elsa, followed by Kristina, who waited patiently in the car whilst her mum and I learned what to do as we went along. The result for both dogs was "Godkänt" (pass). Yipee! I could hardly believe my ears and contain my delight. The judge was particularly pleased with Elsa's abilities and the calm way she went about her task. He also praised her working pace. whereas Kristina was a little too fast, probably due to her youth making the handler's job more difficult too. However, she was very keen but silent in her work. I am VERY proud of the girls whom, I believe, are the first dogs from the UK to take such an examination.
