BARLESTONE YARLE AV NARAENA S47687/2007 GB Ch Barlestone Vosse x Barlestone Paula 28.9.01
Having unexpectedly lost our “Haffy” Naraena Haftor (see tribute on Memory Lane) suddenly just shy of his 7th birthday, we fell for a Barlestone puppy that joined us on Christmas Day 2003 when Brian & Vi Nichols came to join us for Christmas Lunch. Brian had already named the puppy Blue, a midland term of endearment meaning friend. Blue is a very loyal dog, a superb companion and is self appointed guard to his humans and property as well as his canine and feline mates. He may not be the most outstanding show dog but has, nevertheless, been graded excellent by a number of judges in Norway. Perhaps it is his clear colour and wonderful flowing movement that has caught the judges’ eye. Blue is the inspiration behind Michael’s stories which are published in the NECGB Magazine entitled “Blue’s Blatherings”. This series follows on from the original which was entitled “Haffy’s Ta(i)ls”. It is a record of his adventures to Europe and Scandinavia and is informative as well as being extremely light-hearted. He possesses a nick-name of “the sock thief”, given to him by Vanessa McHugh. If he spots a sock he grabs it and struts around with his head held high and dares you to take it from him. It is all a big game and, whilst it may get a little moist, he does not chew it. We believe that it is ‘never too late to teach an old dog new tricks’ and, in Blue’s case, we hope he will have the opportunity and acquit himself well when he joins the hunting scene in Scandinavia. Of course, he is not old by Norwegian Elkhound standards but the hunters begin training their dogs whilst they are puppies. However, we can tell by his reactions in the forest that Blue is fully aware of what lurks in the shadows!
